We’re back in the world where S.C.Y.T.H.E. agents capture souls after death and transport them to the afterlife they’re destined for.
This time, we’re with a completely different cast of characters, and we’re focusing on Nora, a S.C.Y.T.H.E. administrative assistant, and her brother, who is now the next on Death’s list.
So what does Nora do? She steals the file, of course, and essentially kidnaps her brother and travels to Canada. And the weirdness really ramps up then.
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My thoughts
So, I loved the first book by Maxie Dara (A Grim Reaper's Guide to Catching a Killer), gave it 5 stars, and it even made me cry. Now, A Grim Reaper’s Guide to Cheating Death is a cute little mystery, and a very quick read, but I did think it got a tad repetitive (which is the reasoning behind my 4-star rating). Other than that small thing, I enjoyed the book a lot!
This book also gives a cute little life lesson tucked into the mystery—an easy-to-relate-to and easy-to-understand life lesson.
Maxie, I’m hoping there will be a third one for Christmas 2026? Please? (Also, I love “Reading The North”—hey fellow Canadian gal! And I loved that part of the book takes place in Canada, even if it’s a weird/creepy town.)
Question of the day
If you knew Death was coming after your sibling, would you do absolutely everything you could to stop it? Or would you believe everything happens for a reason, so Death must also have a reason? Let me know!
