Final Girls by Riley Sager: REVIEW

Riley Sager, I officially reached the beginning đ
My rating: âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸
My thoughts on Final Girls:
I'll be honest: I didn't head-over-heels love this one quite as much as some of Sager's later books. Survive the Night, Home Before Dark, Lock Every Door, and The Only One Left all had me more invested.
But there were some moments in this psychological thriller that absolutely worked for me, and the ending? SO GOOD. I genuinely didn't see everything coming, and I love when a thriller can still surprise me.
I also really enjoyed the way Final Girls plays with classic slasher movie tropes while putting its own spin on the idea of the âfinal girl.â There are some familiar horror conventions here, but there's enough mystery, suspense, and psychological tension to keep you turning the pages.
And knowing Final Girls was Riley Sager's debut novel (with this pen name) made me appreciate it even more. Looking at it alongside the books he's written since, you can really see the beginnings of the writer who would go on to become one of my favourite authors.
If you're a fan of Riley Sager, psychological thrillers, slasher stories, suspense, unreliable memories, and dark, atmospheric mysteries, I'd definitely recommend giving Final Girls a try.
