A book cover shows the words "Andy Weir" and "Project Hail Mary", with an image of an astronaut tethered and floating in space.

Let’s be honest: there is a massive fandom for Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary right now, and I’m the latest to jump on the bandwagon (and my dog is too, since she demanded to be in this video so she could watch outside…). I guess it’s also good timing to do so, with the movie now out, the latest NASA mission that is sending astronauts around the moon (with a Canadian onboard!) and so on.

For those of you who don’t know about this, Project Hail Mary is a sci-fi thriller about a man who is in outer space in order to save not only the entire human race but the earth as we know it. But when he wakes up on his ship and realizes he’s the only one left alive, oh, and he has no memory of how he got there or WHY he’s there.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My thoughts:

I very rarely leave my genres of mystery/thriller/horror/historical fiction, so the book really needs to be worthwhile for me to venture elsewhere. And this definitely was!

There were points in this book where I was tearing up, gasping from shock, laughing at stupid jokes being told. It was a rollercoaster of emotions.

I of course went to go see the movie after I read the book. I loved it! Of course, there were changes, and I understand that a 16-hour book can’t fully be fit into a 3-hour movie, but I’m just really glad I read the book before seeing the movie, so I could fill in all the blanks.

And I do want to specifically thank @skidemn14 and @dfrance55 for recommending I read this, even when I initially pushed back. And the audiobook was amazing, so I recommend listening to that.

Now, here’s my #QOTD—it’s very simple: who has read Project Hail Mary? Drop an on-theme emoji in the comments if you have, or a thumbs down if you haven’t! (Even though technically the 👎🏻 is part of the movie, let’s still go with it if you haven’t read it)
