Slasher season has officially arrived with E. L. Chen’s new book! When small-town Cedar Lake Falls plans to tear down the infamous cabin where “Slasher” was filmed, a group of friends decides to rent it out for one last hurrah to soak in all the movie memories.
At first, the friends take the creepy happenings as funny pranks. But when it becomes clear that the group is being stalked by an unknown assailant, maybe the group is getting a little too close to the events of the movie they all love so much.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My thoughts
Slasher Summer was pretty good, and it brought along the same vibes as the Scream movies, with a hint of Scary Movie. All the same satirical vibes, poking fun at basically every horror movie that people consider “classics”.
Chen also ties in the character names to horror stories, and I LOVED that when I put that together for myself.
Another great popcorn thriller for everyone to enjoy as we enter the second half of 2026. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a “campy love letter to the slasher films of the 80s”.
Question of the day
Do you like your horror books/movies to be a little satirical and poking fun at the genre as a whole? Or do you want your horror to suck you in and scare the daylights out of you? Let me know what you like!
