In Max Doty’s The House That Eats The Dead, a family moves into their dream home under almost too-good-to-be-true circumstances, only to find out that the house itself has an insatiable hunger. And what it’s craving isn’t ice cream or carbs. And as the hunger intensifies, the family starts to lose control.

I was lucky to be sent this ARC by Bantam, which is an imprint of Penguin Random House, in exchange for my honest review. My thoughts on The House That Eats The Dead:

I’ve never read a book like this. Like, when I think of house-based horror books, I usually think of The September House, or The Caretaker, or How To Survive A Horror Story (which I’m reading now), but this one will definitely jump high on that list.

The House That Eats The Dead sucked me in, right from the first few chapters. Maybe being sucked in in the same way this house sucks things up… There are some really good red herrings and misdirections, but I think I may have guessed the final twist a bit early. But it was a guess that I wasn’t fully convinced by, so I don’t know if that counts.
