The Impossible Fortune is the fifth instalment in The Thursday Murder Club series. I feel like sharing any of what the book is about will give too many spoilers for those who haven’t read the other books yet, so I’ll do my best to keep it very surface-level.
This book features a wedding, and one of our Murder Club members has been busy preparing for it for a long time. Another club member is grieving and not totally themselves, but a new mystery might wake them up from their grief. Another club member is still talking with a criminal, but then that criminal helps them out later on in the story. And then another club member is having some serious family issues. Oh, and there’s a slip of paper leading to a bitcoin account worth over 300,000,000 pounds.

My thoughts
I’ll be honest in saying that I was skeptical going into The Impossible Fortune by Richard Osman, because I thought the fourth book would’ve just been the perfect end to the series, but then Osman decided to write a fifth book. But I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be a good story to add to the series.
This book continues in the same way as the others, where a few members of the group were more heavily focused on than some of the others, and this time, we are hanging out with Joanna and Paul, and Ron and Connie.
In pure Osman fashion, there is a big twist at the end of this book that basically left me laughing and shaking my head, almost in a “Of course it turned out this way!” feeling. You’ll have to let me know if you feel the same way when you read this book.
Question of the day
Do you like book series that continue on and on and on? Or would you rather they end a little earlier while they’re still strong, so the quality stays high and ends on a good note? Let me know what you think!
