The cover of Chelsea Conradt's "The Secret Attic"

“Because there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for Luke.”

HOLD UP.

I’m not talking as myself here or about my husband Luke. I’m just restating the thoughts running through Addison Lowe’s head in Chelsea Conradt’s The Secret Attic.

Addison and Luke are sorting through Luke’s mother’s house after her passing, and it’s almost like a hoarder situation in there. But when Addison finds a secret room (you guessed it, it's a secret attic) and Luke gets weirder and weirder with every box they open, she starts to feel as though she’s not just being haunted… she’s being hunted by something in there.

I was given The Secret Attic as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. So first off, thank you to Chelsea Conradt for writing the book, and to Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley for letting me read it early!

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My thoughts:

To be totally honest, the ending saved this book for me.

Getting into this story was rough. I wasn’t really interested until about 60% through the book, but then I Couldn’t. Get. Enough!

I was rushing through chapter after chapter because I NEEDED to know what would happen next. So, clearly, the beginning is a very slow burn meant to build suspense, but I just wish it moved a liiiiittle faster.

As I mentioned earlier, this book has the perfect ending that left me jaw-on-the-floor with the final two sentences. And then the first thing I read in the acknowledgements section is that Chelsea’s writing experience for this book was like a fever dream. I can 100% understand that after reading the story! But it was a fever dream that turned into a fantastically creepy AF book.

Thanks again for the ARC, Poisoned Pen Press!

Question of the day

If you had to clean out your in-law’s house after their passing, and they were basically a hoarder, would you be binning everything (throwing everything out)? Would you be going through everything with a fine-toothed comb? Let me know what you think!
