Chief Inspector Gamache and his wife, Reine-Marie, are headed off for a little getaway to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Right before Canada Day, the pair make their way to the Manoir Bellechasse, in the thick of Quebec’s beautiful natural landscape, and find that there’s also a family reunion happening at the Manoir at the same time.
Shockingly—or maybe not, since this is a Gamache book—there is a murder, and Gamache calls in his team in order to solve it.
But how do the folks in Three Pines factor in? That’s for you to figure out next, cause I’m surely not going to tell you here 😉
My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
My thoughts
I loved this addition to the Gamache series because A Rule Against Murder essentially gave me a locked-hotel mystery to solve, and I LOVE locked room mysteries.
I did figure out ahead of time who the murderer was, but there are some really good red herrings throughout the whole novel.
I think this might be my favourite novel in the Gamache series so far, and we’re only 4 books into this great novel journey. Great job again, Louise!
Question of the day
If a murder happened at the hotel you were staying at, would you try to be an armchair detective, an amateur sleuth, and try to solve it for yourself? Or would you leave it to the professionals and spend your time reading while you were sequestered there? Let me know!
