The book cover of L. M. Chilton's "Everyone in the Group Chat Dies"

We’re seeing Kirby Cornell in two different parts of her life: when she’s 29 and a reporter for a small, local newspaper and living with roommates in a crappy flat with a crappy landlord in a town known for some horrific murders that happened in the 90s, and suddenly, a new roommate shows up one day.

Then, we also have her a year later, and she’s now 30, she hasn’t been back to the small town of Crowhurst in 12 months because of the events that happened back then. The story leads us through events from “then” and those happening “now”. Oh, and as the title suggests, what we follow along with is that everyone in the group chat could potentially die.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

My thoughts

This was a quick read. It didn’t require too much thought, and it kept me interested until the end. None of the chapters was outrageously long or ridiculously short, and they were made to propel you through the plot.

I guess I just wasn’t thrilled with the characters because it shows how ridiculous our lives have become regarding social media. I’m not talking about people who like to come on Bookstagram and just chat about books because they enjoy it. I’m talking about the people who do outrageous things to increase follower counts and get brand deals and whatnot. That’s basically what this book is about. And I hate that. But anyways…

Question of the day

If you lived in a small town and you were mixed up in something quite horrible, once it was resolved, would you move away to start anew? Or would you stick it out and stay in the town? Let me know!
