Gowns. Champagne. Murder. Hollywood… but make it French, for 12 days straight. Yes, I’m talking about the Cannes Film Festival, because that’s the setting of the book I’m reviewing today!
Three young, ambitious, talented women are the focal point of this novel, but sadly, they can’t seem to climb the ladder and make it big in this industry. Now that they’re in Cannes, they see it as the perfect opportunity to bring their talents into the spotlight. But then a multi-million-dollar necklace goes missing, and a body is found floating in the Mediterranean Sea. What did these three women have to do with all of these incidents? Well, we would never tell.
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My thoughts
This book is what most would call a popcorn thriller, which is a fast-paced, highly entertaining suspense novel that is designed to be read in one sitting. Think of the kind of enjoyment you get from watching a blockbuster movie, then apply it to a book.
I think this book is perfectly wrapped up in the end—but maybe not in the way you’d think just by reading the description. That being said, the book does have a really chaotic beginning, and at times, it was a little hard to keep everyone’s backstories separate in my mind.
And I will say that I really liked that none of these characters are what we’d normally consider “good” people. Sometimes that can be boring.
But that’s all you’re going to hear from me on that. Go and read it! You could even do it now, as the real Cannes is happening from May 12-23.
Question of the day
Have you ever been to Cannes? No, I’m not asking about the film festival. I would just love to know if you’ve been to the city in France. Anyways, let me know!
